About Me

My photo
Welcome to my small little world of sweet treats. Passionate about baking cakes, cupcakes, truffles and eating them too! Having being exposed to such wonderful home-made treats from a very young age, I hope to bring across my passion and love for baking and creating new recipes through this site. All in all, this will focus on fun as well as healthy baking, decorating and everything else creative (could include my love for painting/sketching as well, so I could divert a little from my blog's title :)). Thanks for visiting!

Cake POM POMS!!

Shopping in Ikea can get really exhausting and tiring, so you need a sugar rush and caffiene ofcourse..a nice cup of masala tea will do. In my case, I needed some happy cake pom poms...as I call them (I just wished they came out as colorful as the pom poms that cheerleaders use).

I had already baked a simple pineapple cake and used that up to make the 'POM POM' (doesn't this remind you of the autorickshaw horns in India)....Oh, I get distracted quite easily, so coming back to the pom poms...

All you need to do is bake a cake, you can bake any cake even a boxed cake will taste yummy!! Break the cake apart and get ready to make melted chocolate...really do I need to put this down. Just put some chocolate chips or a chocolate bar of your choice on a double boiler (ok let me make this easy!). Just throw some (it depends on how many pom poms you'd like to make) in a microwave safe bowl and pop it into the microwave for a few seconds. Just make sure you keep stirring them, so as to not burn them. Burnt chocolate doesn't taste so good!

I used about 1 cup of chocolate chips and I basically heated it on the stove. I wouldn't suggest doing that as I'm just plain lazy and like to cut corners.

So after you've broken the cake and added some chocolate in it,  you can start making balls similar to the way we make ladoos. Once, you've done that, just dip your cake pom poms into the chocolate and roll them properly till they get completely covered.

And then take pictures of some friendly faces to show how much fun we're having (believe me, I didn't pay him to smile)!!
Dip it thoroughly!! Yum!!

Family picture time!

Dip it and place them on a cookie sheet or parchment paper to let them dry. You can even pop them in the freezer if you want to eat them in the next 10 minutes and they'll harden.

If you like them plain, you're done. If you like them like I do with some sprinkles on top, then you can put anything that you'd like. Next time I want to make abstract shapes and designs on top of these pom poms. You can also make truffles out of this melted chocolate and not use any cake. It's a nice way of using up any leftover cake! Enjoy.

My fondant creations...

After months of practice in creating fondant figurines, I finally feel that the hard work is beginning to pay off (ofcourse it helps to be a little creative too)!! Thankfully, I had some luck making Dora's friends - boots and map. For those of you who don't have kids, don't worry you'll get there..I mean you'll know what I'm talking about in another coupla years. Or if you are somewhat like me then you can watch it 'on demand'...but yes, you'll have to be a different personality type ;)

Here are some pictures of the figurines that I created...after spending 4 hrs while simultaneously watching the Jets vs Patriots game this past Sunday. With all due respect to my Boston pals, friends whom I feel bad for, hopefully the pictures below will cheer you up. Friends, do let me know if it helped! I might use the same trick to cheer up my fellow peeps on the superbowl weekend ;)!! Maybe make some Jets cupcakes!!

Anyway, this is what I have as of now. Stay tuned for some more creations this coming weekend.

I made some homemade marshmallow fondant and mixed it up with Wilton Pure White Rolled Fondant, 1-Pound 8-Ounce. If you've ever watched Ace of Cakes on food network, the cakes they make are always covered with fondant (almost all the time)...in case you're wondering what fondant is and what these figurines are made of. Enjoy!

Just wanted to share the mess that I made!!

Craving for cupcakes!

While waiting for my dear husband after work, I decided to walk down to this new bakery that just recently opened, it's called baked by Melissa. Similar to my blog's name coincidentally. :)
They sell these cute little, by little I literally mean tiny cupcakes. I wanted to take a picture, but sorry I gobbled them down as soon as I bought them. But this will only give me a reason to make another stop at the bakery...trust me it's just because I want to share the pictures with my friends and not because I'll crave them again!!

Yeah right!!!

Funnily enough, I do have one picture to share...do not worry its not of me and my husband fighting over the tiny cupcake but it's of the cute little to-go box.

Anyways coming back to the point, they are nice but very tiny to easily judge the flavors and I would say they're not cheap either. 1 buck for that size. Ok, I think by now I have everyone curious about the size so I'll go back tomorrow and eat..oops I meant click some pictures. :)

Until then, hasta la vista baby!!

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year to my dear friends and all my fellow bloggers...who don't know me yet! :)

2011 began with a blast. After a fun filled 31st evening based on a Bollywood (Indian cinema) theme, I decided to get back to blogging about nothing specific but just to share with a few about how blessed I feel to have an amazing family and such wonderful friends. A set few with whom I've been spending the last few new yrs eversince I came from India. How I wish that my parents were around!

As far as 2011 is concerned, I am quite excited and anxious about this year because I have a few things planned out for me...let's see how things play out! Enuf about me...so here's a toast to everyone out there...hoping for a healthy and a prosperous year ahead!
And yes 'Special' toast to the hot mamas to be! ;)
